School of Continuing Education and Teacher TrainingThe School of Continuing Education and Teacher Training (SCETT) of Beijing Normal University is a joint administrative and educational institute undertaking continuing education, modern distance education and teacher training. Founded in April 2004, SCETT originated from four different schools, namely the School of Continuing Education (SCE), the School of Network Education (SNE), the School of Teacher Training (STT), and the School of Higher Professional and Technological Education (SHPTE). Up to December of 2007, there are over 33,000 students registered on a range of academic courses, of which more than 11,000 are receiving adult education; about 22,000 online education; more than 230 college/university teachers and teachers of secondary professional schools taking in-service Master’s courses and more than 300 visiting scholars and teachers for refresher courses. Every year the school offers training to more than 10, 000 elementary and secondary school principles, core teachers, teachers of secondary or senior professional education, independently learning students and so on. SCETT embodies the spirit of humanity, attaching great importance to developing students’ practical ability. Its programs have diversified educational forms including correspondence education, night college, networked education, traditional face-to-face learning, academic education at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, and a variety of trainings, etc. It has set up over 70 e-learning centers and 17 correspondence sites throughout the country and several supporting institutes of the Chinese Ministry of Education.
●College Faculty Development and Exchange Center (Beijing) The subjects and majors in SCETT are very comprehensive. Correspondence education covers 14majors, night college 49 majors, networked education 10 majors and 30 in-service Master’s majors for college/university teachers and teachers of secondary professional schools. SCETT takes it as its responsibility to serve the society. It seeks support by contributing desired service and by making desired contribution it seeks development. With easy access to education resources of BNU and availability of excellent teachers from brother schools and departments as well as rich school-running experiences, SCETT has carried out extensive cooperation with central government ministries, local governments, local schools as well as companies and enterprises in the domain of education and training and has produced many quality trainees for society. Striving to live up to BNU motto ‘Studying to teach and acting to example’, SOCETT is exploring operation and development model of continuing education in new context with the final view to building distinctive platform for continuing education as part of the efforts to shape BNU into world-level university. |
